How do you do it? Why do we do it?

We're going to talk about worshipping God - the whys, the what's, and the how's - and we're going to do it in a way that shows that worship isn't just reciting choruses in church - but a real, active, and present walk with God that happens every single day of our lives.

re: Form and Expression

1. I was raised Baptist (that's right I've never sung the 3rd verse of any hymn) and I still have a great fondness for the hymns, but I lean slightly toward the more contemporary now.

It doesn't really matter to me, whatever gets the congregation in an attitude of corporate worship is fine with me, it just has to be genuine and not contrived in any way.

2. Not at all as far as church services go. Now privately that's another matter, there is a lot of metal/hard rock worship that I listen to daily. Dig Hay Zoose's "Dancing In Concert With the Infinite" is my favorite metal worship tune......... betcha I'll never hear that one in a church.....lol.

3. Singing and participating in church services mostly, but I guess anytime I have my attention focused solely on God I'm worshiping in a sense.

4. I wish I did it more. My goal is to be as David says in the Psalms, that His praises would continually be on my lips. Don't succeed much at it though. Life has this nasty habit of distracting me and dragging me down a bit.

What are your preferences in worship?

Liturgy.

Do preferences matter?

Somewhat. Novus Order vs. Tridentine. Organ, choir, hymns vs. Acoustic guitars vs. Plainchant , etc.

2. How has Metal influenced your worship?

Very little.

3. What are some of your expressions of worship and why?

The main and most important expression is through the liturgy. Also, Eucharistic adoration.

4. What is the daily role of worship in your life?

Unfortunately, I don't have a work schedule that allows for daily Mass, so, my main day of worship is Sunday morning Mass, or the Saturday night Vigil Mass. I attend Eucharistic Adoration whenever I get the chance i.e. when possible for me to get there after work. Also, recitation of the Rosary and the Glorious, Joyful, Luminous and Sorrowful Mysteries.

What are your preferences in worship? Do preferences matter? I prefer old hymns, but it really doesn't matter to me as long as it's not about me. Singing songs that center on me or what I feel seem contrary to worshiping God.

2. How has Metal influenced your worship? Not much as far as I can tell if we're talking about worshiping as a congregation. There are a few metal songs that put me in a state of worship.

3. What are some of your expressions of worship and why? Meditating on God's attributes usually starts everything off for me. Once I start that, I don't feel compelled to worship, but I can't do anything but worship God, it just comes out.

4. What is the daily role of worship in your life?

I think like a lot of people I don't put enough time into it.

re: Form and Expression

1. My preferences are actually old, old, OLD school. I love the candles, Gloria Deo, and recitations that come with a high church service. Having said that - no, it's not THAT important to me. It's more important that we preach the Gospel in a way that is relevant and uncompromising.

2. Mostly by allowing me to stick a couple of metal bass licks into hymns and praise songs.

3. My favorite expression is hymns, meaning old hymns written 200 or more years ago.

4. The daily expression is a bit tougher. It's hard to be worshipful when you've got a 7:30-6:00 job, family responsibilities, and a note from your doctor ordering you to exercise "or else".

We worship God because He first loved us.

Would you offer up the life of your child for me? Of course not, but God did. His love for me, Susan, was so magnificent, so vast and without measure that He made the ultimate sacrifice, so that one day, i'd be brought into his presence and take part in a great inheritance.

The God who created Heaven and Earth, the seas and everything in them, from the most simple organisms to the most complicated life systems and everything in between... was the divine architect of my life.

the Bible says He knew me before i was knit in my mother's womb. What a concept.

With all that's going on in this world, He still loved me enough to stop and create me from nothing. He thought about every mole and beauty mark, the color of my eyes, the sound of my laugh... nothing about me was random.

He poured His love and creativity into me, then set me loose into the world to be His much loved daughter.

He delights in seeing me walk out this life in order to reach His ultimate destiny for me. He aches when i ache and like a good father, is never far away from His child, lest she fall. He's there to lift me back up.

When i succeed and rejoice, He rejoices with me.

This is why i worship Him. He deserves nothing less than all my worship, all my praise and devotion.

We were created for God, by God, for His delight. The sooner we realize and accept this the better because we might just spare ourselves the illusion of the worship of temporal things. We will try to fill the great hole in our being with things other then God e.g. material possessions, sex, alcohol/drugs, etc. None of these things can ever really compete, though -- which is why we will inevitably fall into despair. The evil one will use that against us. The evil one will use our own despair as a weapon. And there is only one true defense against it, Jesus Christ.
